This is the most extraordinary molinillo (moussoir) we have found. Made in Mexico it is beautifully detailed with three "loose" rings that help to stir and froth the chocolate. The molinillo "fino" (fine) is hand turned with burned-on decoration. A fabulous accessory for frothing your favorite Mexican hot chocolate drink. Just rinse after each use. The wood will darken with age and use. Each piece is unique, all hand made approximately 13 - 14" long.

A Little Molinillo History

The molinillo was invented by the Spaniards back in the 1700's for the purpose of mixing (frothing) a very thick chocolate mixture; the predecessor of our current day hot chocolate.  Prior to that time the mixing was accomplished by pouring the chocolate from one container to another.  The original molinillo was more simplified than this later version.  Read more about the molinillo here.

Delightful wooden utensil
I bought this not to make chocolate, but because I love handmade wooden tools. It feels good in the hand and the three loose rings make a cheerful rattling sound when you twirl it.
