    • 1/4 milk
    • 4 medium sweet (brown) onions
    • 1/2 cup salted water
    • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
    • 1 cup soft bread crumbs
    • 1/4 cup shredded American cheese
    • salt
    • pepper
    • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
    • 1/4 cup chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 400F

Peel onions but do NOT cut tops or bottoms.  This will insure the onions will hold together.

Place in a deep casserole dish with milk and salted water then microwave on high about 8-10 minutes until almost tender.
Drain onions.

Meanwhile, make bread crumbs and grate the cheese.

Mix 3/4 C breadcrumbs, cheese, salt, pepper, Worcestershire Sauce and pecans.

Cut a slice from the top or bottom of each onion and scoop out all but at least 2 outer layers of onion.

Chop pulp finely and saute in 1 1/2 Tbs. butter.  Add to the bread mixture and mix well.

Melt one Tbs. of butter in the casserole dish. Stuff the onions and put them back in the dish. Top with remaining 1/4 C breadcrumbs then dot with 1/2 Tbs. butter.

Bake at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
