An interesting Russian Rice recipe is a combination of rice, cherries, sugar and rum. This historic recipe dates back to Use as a side dish with roasted meats. This is a good example of how food prep and food tastes have changed in the last 100 years or so.
Put the rice, which has been previously boiled, in a glass dish.
Take a gill of water (about 1/2 cup) with the sugar, and boil for 20 minutes. When it is somewhat cool, add the spirits to it, and pour it over the rice.
Serve it very cold, with maraschino cherries or with slices of canned pineapple. Apricots can be used instead of pineapple.
