The Hard Way: Bring a large pot of water to boil. Dump the shelled fava beans in the hot water and just par-boil for about 2 minutes. Transfer the parboiled beans to a large bowl filled with ice water. Drain the beans and remove the papery skins.
The Lazy Way: Simply skip the steps above and continue with the recipe. Heat a heavy frying pan (cast iron or stainless steel works well) over medium-high heat and add about 2-3 teaspoons of olive oil. Add the fava beans to the hot pan and quickly stir-fry them until the exterior is blistered and brown, just 2-4 minutes or until they are al dente. They should not be too soft (unless you prefer them that way). Once cooked drain on paper toweling again and add kosher or sea salt to taste.
