What is Yogurt?
A dairy product made from whole or low/nonfat milk combined with a special bacteria that causes the milk to thicken. The resulting product has a tart flavor. Yogurt has been produced for thousands of years and was originally made as a way to preserve milk.
Today yogurt is available in countless varieties from plain, full fat, low fat and nonfat as well as a myriad of flavors some made with sugar and some sugar free. Aside from being a good breakfast or snack food yogurt can be used as a substitute for sour cream in sauces and dips. It is also used as a general cooking ingredient.
Substitute for Yogurt
Per cup yogurt substitute 1 cup sour cream OR buttermilk (for baking) or mayonnaise for dips
