Wynendale cheese is difficult to find in the United States. The full-cream pasteurized cow's milk cheese comes from Flanders region of Belgium. This aromatic, spicy and ultra creamy cheese leaves a nutty, lingering flavor and works perfectly as a dessert course or on your cheeseboard. Pair Wynendale with a creamy Belgian ale or off-dry white wine or even a Gewurztraminer. Serve it with bread on your cheese board.
The cheese comes in flat rounds with an orange rind. Although Wynendale appears to be a handcrafted cheese it is actually made in a large cheese factory.
If you live in an area with a very well-stocked cheese shop you may be able to find it. It is occasionally available online in the U.S. iGourmet.com has sold it the past. If you happen to be in New York Zabar's sometimes stock this cheese.
