Wild rice is not a type of rice but is the seed from a grass that grows in California as well as regions of the Northern part of the United States. Wild rice is dark brown/black in color and, when cooked, produces a chewy, nutty grain. Wild rice makes a delicious stuffing for poultry.
You can purchase wild rice in most well-stocked grocery stores. Lundberg Farms is a good brand, and they sell some wild rice blends as well. When shopping for wild rice, look for quick-cooking versions. The quick-cooking rice is smaller and thinner than regular wild rice.
