What is Turnips?
A relative to the rutabaga this root vegetable is very versatile and can be steamed, boiled and mashed, fried or roasted. It is a good addition to braised lamb or veal shanks.
Turnips are a common vegetable which can be found in most grocery stores from October through February. They are an easy vegetable to grow in your home garden and will store well in your root cellar or pantry.
Equivalents
1 lb turnips = 3-4 med or 2 1/2-3 cups cooked & mashed
1 medium = 1 cup 1/2-inch pieces
1lb = 3 to 4 medium, 2 1/2 cups diced
