Sao Jorge cheddar cheese is a Portuguese cheddar made from cow's milk. The cheese is named after the island in the Azores of the same name (Saint Jorge). The flavor of Sao Jorge is tangy yet subtle with slightly peppery notes. Use this cheese for melting atop a burger or a grilled cheese sandwich or add it to your cheeseboard and serve with red wine and crusty bread.
If you are a cheese maker and you'd like to try your hand at making this cheese you can find the recipe and detailed instructions (as well as supplies) at the New England Cheese Making Supply Company.

For those less adventurous that prefer to buy rather than make cheese you can try finding it at a well-stocked cheese shop or food import shop such as World Market. iGourmet sometimes sells it via Amazon.com: Sao Jorge
