Dry salad dressing mix is a common convenience food available at most any grocery store. Most contain an array of dried herbs, spices, sugar or other flavorings. Some may contain dehydrated cheese. These products typically contain a very high amount of salt so people with salt-restricted diets should read labels carefully.
Common varieties include Ranch and Italian. There are special sugar-free and low-sodium varieties as well.
You can make your own mixes at home as well, see recipe below for an at home version of dry ranch dressing mix.
Combine all ingredients in the container of a food processor or blender and process on high speed until well blended and powdery smooth. To Use
Combine 1 tablespoon dry mix with 1 cup milk and 1 cup mayonnaise. Mix well.
Store your unused dressing mix in a small glass jar with a tight fitting lid in a cool dry location (like your pantry). It will store easily for at least 6 months.
