Long grain rice is available in both white and brown rice varieties. The long grain rice kernels are four to five times longer than they are wide. These rice grains tend to be dryer when cooked then shorter grain rice, which makes them separate, rather than stick together. One well-known type of long-grain rice is Basmati, used extensively in Indian cooking.
