Pinto beans are a common bean used for making chili or cooked and mashed for making re-fried beans. The beans can be purchased dried or cooked or packaged in cans and are available in most grocery stores.
Pinto beans should be soaked overnight. The water should be changed out then the beans should be simmered until tender, about 2 to 3 1/2 hours.
