What is Peas
Peas
are a legume in a long slender green pod with a row of round, green seeds called peas. The inner seeds are edible but the pod is not. Green peas are a common food and are available fresh, frozen and canned.
Substitute for Peas
You can substitute canned or frozen peas for fresh (texture and flavor loss with canned).
OR substitute equal amounts of fresh black-eyed peas, lima beans or fresh cranberry beans.
