Pastelitos
What are Pastelitos?
Literally translated means "little pies". Pastelitos are made in many Latin American countries. There are many variations including sweet and savory. The dough is sometimes like a pie crust or sometimes made with a puff pastry. The sweet fillings may be made with cooked fresh or dried fruits. Savory fillings include cheeses, beans, and various meats. In New Mexico pastelitos are made for special occasions as well as part of the fall harvest festival.
