What is Mayonnaise?
A condiment made by beating egg yolks, vegetable oil, salt and vinegar until it forms a thick sauce. Mayonnaise is very easy to make at home but most commonly it is purchased pre-made. In addition to full-fat versions mayonnaise is also available in reduced fat and fat free products. Watch for additives in the lower fat versions. Sometimes using a small amount of real mayonnaise is a better health option than the chemical-laden low fat product.
