What are Macaroons?
Macaroons - [mak-uh-ROON] A type of cookie made from ground almonds or paste with sugar and egg whites. Macaroons may be crunchy or chewy. Coconut is a common addition as well.
The Macaroon is one of the 1st cookies mentioned in early American cookbooks. Cookies were popular because they were easy to make and used small quantities of precious flavorings.
Substitute for Macaroons
For sweet crumbs substitute vanilla or chocolate wafers or Amoretti cookies
