Closely akin to the rambutan, the lychee originated in China about 2000 years ago. The fruit is about 2" in diameter, round, with a tough reddish-pink color bumpy peeling. The peeled fruit is white and almost transparent with a texture similar to a grape. The flavor is similar to a combination of grapes and pineapple.
