Italian Seasoning is a commercially prepared mixture of common Italian herbs including basil, rosemary, marjoram, thyme and oregano. You can use this seasoning in spaghetti sauce as well as other Italian dishes such as lasagna or eggplant Parmesan. Or add to soups, stews or even bread stuffing.
Find organic brands when you can. We like the Spice Hunter brand of Italian Seasoning. This recipe is a typical use for this seasoning: Pasta with Turkey Italian Sausage and Tomato Vodka Sauce.
If you don't have Italian Seasoning you can easily make your own substitute at home. Simple combine equal amounts (1-2 tablespoons is a good start) of:
You do not need to add any salt. If you don't have all these ingredients use the ones you have on hand.
You are not limited to using a mixture of dry herbs. If you happen to have fresh herbs in your garden you can use the same selection of herbs and substitute a total of 1 tablespoon of fresh, finely chopped herbs per teaspoon of dried herbs needed.
This is a very common grocery store item. Look for it in the dry spice section of your local grocery store. Of course you can always find it online at Amazon.com: Simply Organic Italian Seasoning
