Roux is the essential base of browned flour and water used for a variety of for Southern dishes one of the most famous being gumbo. Instant Roux is a fine flour with added flavoring and spices and eliminates the need for butter.
Place a sauce pan over medium heat and whisk one cup of Instant Roux Mix with 2 cups of cold water.
Bring the mixture to a boil and cook until it begins to thicken. Remove the roux from the heat and continue to stir until the roux is well blended. Use prepared roux in your favorite recipe.
