What is Flax seed?
A golden to dark colored small seed from the flax plant which is particularly high in Omega 3 fatty acids. Can be ground and incorporated into breads or even sprinkled on cereal. The little seeds are very hard so use a rough stone mortar and pestle or an electric grinder.
Available in health food stores and some well-stocked grocery stores.
Substitute for Flax seed
If your recipe calls for ground flax you can grind your own in a small burr-grinder. You can substitute whole brown sesame seed for flax seed for whole flax seed.

1 tablespoon whole seed = 10.3 grams 1 tablespoon ground = 7 grams 1 tablespoon whole = 1.47 tablespoon ground flax seed 1 cup whole = 24 tablespoons ground
