Figs are a fruit that dates back to biblical times. The fig was found in Europe, Asia and Africa and is found almost world-wide today. In California the Black Mission fig is very common but there are hundreds of varieties.
The fig is ripe when the skin is wrinkled and the flesh plump but soft. The interior of the fig is filled with tiny seeds which are eaten with the flesh. In addition to fresh figs the are commonly available dried.

Fresh figs are delicious snack or dessert fruit. The dried fruits are used in baked goods and candies.
