Datil peppers are grown predominantly in St. Augustine Florida. The pepper originated on the island of Minorca. Although there is much lore about how the pepper made its way to Florida there is not a lot of documented history. Today the peppers are grown as small family enterprises. There is small production of various products including hot sauces, dried peppers and preserved as well.
The Datil is quite hot and on a scale of 1 - 10 it is classified as a 10.
