Carob chips are small formed "chips" of carob similar in shape and size to "chocolate chips". Carob contains no chocolate but is produced from the large evergreen carob tree. The tree produces large pods, each containing several small seeds (beans). Carob chips are made with the carob powder combined with sweeteners and vegetable oil.
Use in any recipe calling for chocolate chips or "chocolate pieces" although the flavor is similar it is not exactly like chocolate. Unlike chocolate, carob does not contain caffeine or theobromine.
