Caperberries are large, brined or salted berries from the caper bush. The more common caper is the pickled bud whereas the caper berry is what forms after the bud flowers then produces a fruit. The large berries have a crunchy texture and a slightly citrus flavor.
Caper berries are sold with the stems still attached and are used to garnish cocktails or used as a relish or condiment. You can also slice or chop the caperberries and use them in sauces as you would regular capers.
Purchase caper berries in some well-stocked grocery stores, gourmet shops and some delis. Trader Joe's frequently stocks them. They can also be found online at Amazon.com Caperberries (Caper Berries).
