What is Baking Powder?
Baking powder is a chemical that is used as a leavening (rising) agent in baking. Baking powder is made up of baking soda, cornstarch and some form of acid like cream of tartar. The term "double acting" refers to the way the gas is released, first when the baking powder comes in contact with moisture and later again when the mixture is heated.
Substitute for Baking Powder
1/2 tsp cream of tartar plus 1/4 tsp baking soda
