Quick Find:
Arepas
What is Arepas?
pronounced [ah-REP-ahs] refers both to a variety of cornmeal made from large kerneled starchy corn as well as a type of flat bread. Arepas are eaten predominately in Central America, Venezuela, and Cuba. This flatbread or "corn cake" looks similar to the American "English Muffin" and can be split open and filled filled or topped with any number of ingredients common ones being cheese (arepas con queso) or chicken.
The arepa would normally be patted into shape by hand and cooked on a comal or griddle. As with any food some gadgetry has been invented to help make the "perfect" arepa. The product shown is by Oster.
