Anise seeds: A member of the parsley family, the seed of the anise plant imparts a licorice flavor to foods and beverages. The use of anise as a flavoring dates back to at least 1500 BC. Anise is used in many countries including China, Italy, Mexico and Southeast Asia.
This is a common grocery store item found in most well-stocked grocery stores. If your local Whole Foods Market sells spice in bulk (some stores do, some don't) then that is a good way to purchase this spice.
