Ahimi™ is a new plant based alternative for tuna used for making sushi as well as other vegetarian seafood dishes. Ahimi is produced by Ocean Hugger Foods headquartered in New York, NY. The product was available before under the name Tomato Sushi.
Non-GMO tomatoes, non-GMO and preservative-free soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil and filtered water.
The product has a very similar look to raw tuna but is actually made with a combination of non-GMO tomatoes, non-GMO and preservative-free soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil and filtered water. The product is vegetarian but because of the soy sauce it is not gluten free.
Starting in October, 2017 ahimi will be featured by Whole Foods fresh sushi bars located in New York and Los Angeles. Both Google and Twitter will be testing the product out in their company cafeterias. For now (September 2017) there is no direct to consumer availability.
Once the package is opened it should be refrigerated and used within 2-3 days. Alternately you can freeze it; thaw before use.
