The Wine Cellar is a Bucca (underground) place with great fondue, grilled meats, pasta and sea food as well as good wines. The restaurant offers terrace and indoor seating. The outdoor seating is very popular and they have umbrellas in the summer and heaters in the evenings and cooler months.
The Wine Cellar opened in 1966 and is currently one of the oldest, continuously operating restaurants in Los Gatos and the oldest restaurant in Old Town. Their original space was carved out of what was the old University Avenue School auditorium. In 1966 the old school property was turned into a hip shopping center with a leather shop / sandal maker, pottery shops, eateries and more. The Wine Cellar website has a nice little history you can read here. The restaurant changed hands in 1990 and is still owned by the Hauck family today.
Back in the early 1970's we used to hang out, eat fondue and listen to live entertainment downstairs. Old Town was unfortunately "modernized" in the 1990's and lost a most of the original charm.
There is limited parking available in front of Old Town. There is also more parking behind Old Town, access it from Mullen Avenue right off University. You can also park along University Avenue or use the town parking lot off of Elm Street.
In 2002 the Traditional Swiss & Gruyere Fondue Cheddar & Ale Fondue was $14.95 and today, 2019 it's $22.00.
