Los Gatos was home to Tapestry "A California Bistro" from 1998 until its closing in January of 2012. The chef and co-owners were husband and wife team Gary and Vickie Messick. Located in the old house next to the Soda Works on College Avenue the small but elegant restaurant could seat up to 50 customers in the dining room and 50 outside on the patio.
The coupled described their cuisine as "Global, California cuisine that combines foods from different cultures with local fresh ingredients." You can read the Metroactive review of the restaurant here.
According to their old website Los Gatos Weekly named them "Best New Restaurant":
Review from Los Gatos Weekly, October 1998 Carol and Joe Hargett, owners of Los Gatos' Dolce Spazio and the 2wenty-9ine East Main restaurant have teamed up with chefs Vickie and Gary Messick to create Tapestry: A California Bistro. Modeled after the historic Puccinelli house on whose site it now stands, this charming bistro has already become so popular after two months that those who want a Friday or Saturday reservation are wise to call on Monday. Global cuisine is what they are calling their international dishes with local ingredients. Gary prepares such delights as goat cheese ravioli with dried tomatoes and olives, oven-roasted bluenose bass with fava beans, seared rare ahi, green curry fettuccine and lemon-dill linguine. Vickie prepares wonderful desserts including berry coeur, chocolate souffle cake with caramel marscapone cream, panna cotta with fresh blueberries and cardamom lace.
After Tapestry closed the space was eventually taken over by Nick's Next Door.
