Happy Hound dates back to 1971 when it was established as a small little burger joint located across from Whole Foods grocery store. Pictured is my favorite, the Swiss Burger. These are about the best hamburgers and hot dogs in town. (East Los Gatos). The portions are really large. Everything is prepared right there in front of you and you can see how freshly everything is.
Other than hamburgers they have hot dogs, cheese dogs, chile dogs, great milk shakes and even french fried onion rings. Again, not a big menu but what they do, they do very well. Their basic Happy Hound Dog is great, it features a large hot dog with bun, chopped red onion, and ripe red tomatoes. We always wonder how their onions are so sweet all the time. I don't know if they taste them or what but you never get overly-hot red onion on their burgers and dogs.
Swiss Burger At Happy Hound
This is an example of a small place that makes a few things really well. In addition to burgers and hot dogs they offer the requisite French fries, onion rings and soft drinks and milk shakes.
The Cheddar Burger
Seating includes a few tables inside, some benches outside as well as a couple of outside tables under umbrellas.
The Happy Hound has their own parking along the side and back of the building. It can be crowded when it's really busy. There is some street parking too on Leroy but most is permit parking so beware.
If you're in a real hurry (this is all prepared fresh for you) then you can order online and pick up when it's ready.
