Wednesday, September 7, 2016 Total Steps For Day: 13,606 (work out + walk) Total Calories: 570 + Dinner out Weight Loss: -.7lb (-6.7 lbs total for 19 days, body fat up .5%)
It was cool to weigh this morning and be almost another pound down. I'm 3 tenths of a pound shy of 7lbs down! Wooo Hooo! Today's work out was good but some of these arm strength training exercises are tough! None of the exercises are easy. Good to have it over with until Friday.
Today I had the Nutrisystem Turkey Sausage and Egg Muffin again. As you've probably noticed I "bought in depth" on that item. I had a small piece of steak I needed to cook. I purchased one of those bulk packs of Top Sirloin steaks at Costco the other day. I used one and then put all the others (except a little one) in individual bags in the freezer. I'm not keen on frozen meat but IF I discipline myself to let them thaw in the frig before I need it, it won't be too bad. I sliced the little steak (about 4 ounces raw) and sauteed in a hot small cast iron pan with just a little salt, pepper and garlic powder (no additives). I split the slices with my husband; mine weighed out at 1 3/8 ounces, about 4 little slices. This was plenty to eat and lots of protein for work out day. I also added a 4 ounce hit of low sodium V8 juice.
This meal did not make for a good visual. Work out days are time crunches so I don't take time for pretty. Some nice red tomatoes would have been a pretty and healthy add. V8 juice had to be the fill in today.
I took a short walk after my work out so I have about 5300 steps so far. With that 11k daily goal in mind that means I have another walk to do today. It's going to be another hot one here. The walks are harder to work in.
I was rather parched after the work out and walk so the usual Dr. Keith's Chocolate Cream shake hit the spot. I'm good now until lunch. I have to space out meals and snacks today to accommodate my evening dinner plans.
One of the downsides of owning and running a culinary website is I have to look and think about food all day long. One amazing thing about this program is that this is the only diet I can remember where all those food visuals don't make me crazy hungry. I think it's because I'm eating well balanced foods (protein, fiber, carbs and fat wise) every 2-3 hours. I just don't crave things. The foods I look at may look good but they don't make my stomach gurgle.
I'm keeping lunch real simple today so I'm having a 200 calorie Nutrisystem Grilled Chicken Sandwich. I'll maraud around the garden and find something fresh to add to it.
I was able to find some edible lettuce (it's way at the end of its usable life) and some nice fresh red tomatoes. I also have some sweet red onion.
I made a quick "cheater-aioli" with a teaspoon of Entube - Harissa Chili Paste chili paste and 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise. In total the little sauce was 95 calories but I only used 1 teaspoon so that was just a bit over 30 calories. It added a nice kick to the sandwich.
I skipped my afternoon snack because I wasn't hungry and I figured I'd save a few calories for dinner. I did however hop on the treadmill for about 16 minutes at a 3.3mph pace with a varying incline. That exercise netted me about 2000 steps.
Tonight is a Flex Meal. So that means I can have about 4 ounces of meat or a little more fish, any fresh vegetables (not drenched in sauces or dressings) and a small portion of something starchy. The restaurant has very good, high quality food but all tends toward the high calorie side. I'll do my best.
This restaurant was tough for healthy eating. It was about impossible to avoid salt, fat and sugar. There were 3 of us and we shared 3 small appetizers, one heirloom tomato, one beet salad, one squid appetizer and one entree of fresh salmon. I did not overeat by any means but I know what these ingredients tend to do to my weight.
I walked to and from dinner so this allowed me to rack up a little over 13k steps for the day. The restaurant is not well lighted so the images are dark. Each of these dishes shown below were split 3 ways.
Sherried Beet Salad
Heirloom Tomato Salad
Squid Appetizer
One pot de creme was ordered for the three of us and I had 2 small bites. It was good but I didn't need the calories.
I got quite a bit of exercise and I'm hoping it helps offset the calories at dinner. I feel very good about the portions. As you can see the portions were very conservative to begin with, just a couple of spoonful's each. I suspect my weight will go up in the morning. I'm heading into a week road trip so that will be the real test.
Onward and downward!
