I woke up 6ish, my normal time. Yesterday it was 109F at the hottest part of the day. When I looked outside this morning I noticed it appeared to be quite breezy. I stepped out on the deck and was greeted by a blast of warm air. I checked the temp, it was 84F out, at 6:15a.m. Wow, this is not normal Northern California weather. I wanted to get out for a walk no later than 7:30. I made coffee, watched some news then made my standard breakfast. Yes, again, Fage 2% Greek yogurt, fresh blueberries and some flax seed granola.
I left for my walk shortly after 7:30. I made one stop then on to town. At 8:00am it was 85F in town. What typical morning energy I had was lost in this hot weather. I made it a short walk. I stopped in at the farmer's market and purchased an orchid. I checked mail at my post office box. I headed right back home. It was just too uncomfortable already. I stopped for just a couple minutes to chat with some friends I met on the walk home. I got home as quickly as I could. I poured a glass of iced coffee and put on a fresh to pot so I'd have more for later. I never did have a snack.
I decided to go out in the air conditioned car to do an errand and grocery shop on the way home. It ended up taking almost an extra hour because of all the traffic using our town as a short cut. I can't go there but suffice to say even though I was 5 minutes from my house it took 55 minutes to get home.
With provisions in hand (well, in grocery bag) I put things away except those I'd need for lunch. I made a quick steak fajita wrap. I sliced some steak, a red bell pepper and and half of a yellow onion. I sauteed the ingredients with some salt, pepper, and garlic salt. I heated some whole wheat low carb tortillas. I placed the filling on the tortilla then topped it with a little chipotle hot sauce and about 1 tablespoon of shredded white cheddar cheese. I folded it up and ate it followed with a big glass of iced water.
Lunch was pretty filling but I was land-locked in the house. It's too hot to go do anything and I was bored. These are my excuses for eating things I should not have. I had a few pieces of a cranberry, nut snack. I had a couple little pieces of melon and pieces of prosciutto. UGH. But, it was good, just NOT healthy living.
By the time dinner rolled around I was just not hungry enough to make what I had planned for dinner (pork chops with herbed butter, broccolini, and roasted potatoes). I did have left over cooked rotini. I cut up some red bell pepper and green onions. I combined the vegetables with about 3 minced cloves of garlic in little olive oil. I did a real quick saute then poured the mixture over the pasta. I topped it with a little feta cheese. That was dinner.
I don't know how I had space for anything else but I eventually had 3 Hershey milk chocolate nuggets with a few cashew nuts.
I could have done worse. That's the best I have to report on my eating today. This heat should be less tomorrow on Labor Day. I sure hope so. I hope you've all had a restful weekend. Have a happy Labor Day!
