I got up about 6am, my usual time. I guzzled my 2 cups of coffee per my normal M.O. I wanted to head out early because today should be as hot or hotter than yesterday. I microwaved my last egg, scallion, ham, red pepper muffin. I could have have fruit with it, had I had some but I did not.
I walked 10k steps plus by the time I got home. I took a walk I've not been on for over 3 years. Lots of hills, areas where you have to watch for mountain lions and coyotes (nothing seen). While out walking I stopped at Great Bear a local coffee house and about my fave here in town. My husband had an iced mocha with REAL whipped cream. I had an iced coffee with about 3 tablespoons of half and half. Oh and I did take a taste of his whipped cream MMMMMM good!
When I go back I had a stick of string cheese.
It was over 100F already at about 11:30. I decided to go over to the mall for some a/c and mindless shopping. Actually there were a couple things I wanted to buy to organize my bathroom drawer. It was over 105 by the time I parked and made it to Crate and Barrel. I ended up not buying anything (which is typical for me). Instead I had lunch at Cheesecake Factory. I ordered the Vietnamese Shrimp Summer Rolls. These are "fresh rolls" in that they are not fried in fact not even cooked. They are simply tapioca sheets (aka rice paper) with 2 little shrimp, some cilantro, a few rice noodles, shredded carrot, and some bits of mushroom. I love these! They seem to be about 160 calories each and the order had 3. There were two sauces, one with toasted sesame seed oil, ginger and soy sauce, the other was a peanut sauce. Both were wonderful but I only ate about half of the ginger/soy sauce and maybe a tablespoon of the peanut sauce. I could have eaten it all but I tried to be good.
I did a little more shopping before I left but as usual didn't buy much.
I got back and kicked back for a couple of hours. I sipped ice water but didn't eat anything. I eventually had to go to the pet food store for kitty food. I drove to the general vicinity but walked about 3 blocks up and back to get a few more steps. The reality is I'm already well over my steps for the day. My house registered 90F inside (no a/c) and 109 outside. OMG, this is HOT!
Oh good lord it was time for MORE cheese and crackers. We also bought some fresh fruit, grapes, and new type of melon, like a cantaloupe called Honey Crisp which I've never tried. I had melon with prosciutto wrapped around, grapes, cheese, some crackers, a few little olives and some tiny tomatoes topped with fresh mozzarella, basil and a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
I kicked back after dinner with about a half gallon of ice water (not really but it felt like that in my stomach). You start to feel water logged when its so hot and you keep drinking water to cool off. Later I did have 2 Hershey's Nuggets with almond.
This is one of the hottest days I can even remember. The air looks horrible. I'm really glad I got my early morning walk in. I plan to do a repeat of this schedule tomorrow. I hope you are all cool. I'm wishing all the best to the folks in Houston. I can't even imagine how they are able to endure that crazy rain and chaos. Oh, here is the Honey Crisp melon:
