According to the folks at Imperfect Produce, about 20% of the produce grown in the United States is tossed into the landfill, rejected by grocery stores because it is cosmetically less appealing. That is a pretty astounding number. Mind you this is not rotten, diseased or unhealthful produce just (to quote Imperfect Produce) just "cosmetically challenged".
Imperfect Produced started their company back in 2015. Located in Emeryville, California, the company purchases produce direct from the farmers which results in higher revenue for them, then resells to consumers. They work very much like a typical CSA program where they provide various sized boxes of produce and very good prices.
Lets face it. Most produce we buy ends up being peeled, sliced, diced or chopped. In most cases It really does not matter what it looked like in its original form, as long as it is fresh and healthful.
You can look here to see their full selection of fresh produce boxes. Let's give them our support. The prices are very reasonable and it's farm fresh right to your door!
