I just wanted to write a quick follow to our post from late 2014 regarding your right to choose from where your meat products come from. On June 10, 2015, the house passed a bill to repeal the COOL act which required U.S. retailers to disclose the country of origin of beef, pork and lamb. So once again, big business wins, citizens lose.
Being a fourth generation American, I feel I have the duty to fight back, and I hope you do too. Just because your local grocer does not HAVE to tell you where your meat products come from, doesn't mean you can't insist that they do. Vote with your feet Americans! Shop at stores that disclose the country of origin of the meat. At least for now, they still know the source, and the good stores tell you who that source is.
In addition to your local grocery store, many U.S. farmer's markets sell meats, fish and poultry from very local sources. You may (or may not) pay a bit more but if you are determined, you can find local affordable food. For me, if that means eating less meats, then I'm good with that, probably better for me and for the animals. Again, that's my humble point of view. Please take our poll and leave your comments. Let us know what you think.
