Gourmetsleuth.com is a secure, safe shopping site.  Our site is protected using 128bit Secure Socket Layer encryption.  What this means to you is that all personal information as well as your credit card information is encrypted while it is passed from our web site to your bank's authorization system.  Our company is certified through GeoTrust, a SSL Security Certificate Provider.

How To Tell If A Web Site Uses SSL Security
First, only pages that store personal information are encrypted -- not catalog or other content pages. At GourmetSleuth, the first secure page you will see is the shopping cart login page. This is where you either set up a new account or login with an existing account.  This page, and every page forward in the shopping process is secure.

Your browser window will display a little "lock" icon on the right side bottom of the browser window.  (This is true for Fire Fox and Internet Explorer, other browsers may display different icons).  If you double click on that icon you can view the web site's SSL certificate information.

Another way to see that you are inside the SSL area is to look at the address in the browser address bar.  The normal "http" will be replaced with "https". See the example below.
