Whole dried ancho chiles. Ancho means "wide" in Spanish and is actually a dried poblano pepper. The ancho is part of the "holy trinity" of chiles used in mole sauces but can be used in soups or stews or any recipe calling for whole, mild chiles.
Packaging: 8 oz. hand-packed bag. (Also available in powdered form, see ancho powder). Store unused chiles in a cool dry location in a zip storage bag. Alternately you can hydrate the anchos with water, then puree the chiles and freeze the puree in small containers.
