Rinse the rice and rye berries in a sieve under running water. Put the washed grains in a large pot with the water and salt. Bring to a boil. Stir once, reduce the heat and cover with a tight-fitting lid. cook over very low heat for 34 - 40 minutes, or unit the grains are tender.
Let the rice stand, covered, for 10 minutes before serving.
