[POM-uh-gran-uht]
A beautiful red to light pink fruit
orginally from Persia. Inside the fruit are many sections where the tiny seeds are
grouped. Each seed is surrounded by a fleshy tart tasting pulp. They are a bit messy to
eat (and the fruit has a very high staining power so don't wear white!). The juice
can be extracted and used in drinks as well as other recipes. Pomegranate juice or syrup
(also referred to as pomegranate paste) is available in Middle Eastern stores.
