metate y mano 13 x 10 1/2

This skillfully hand made tool from El Salvador and is related in lineage to the molcajete. This is an exact replica of the Mayan design. It is used to grind corn and for mashing ingredients to make salsas and purees. To use this tool place the food to be ground in the center of the metate. Roll the mano back and forth over the food to grind it to the desired consistency. Our metate is approximately 10 1/2" wide by 13" long x 2 1/2" high. The mano is 7 1/2" - 8" long. The weight averages about 16 - 18 pounds. The pieces are hand made from lava rock.
