pestle surikogi sansho
Rarely found outside of Japan, a beautifully hand carved traditional Japanese surikogi (pestle) made from sansho (prickly ash). The ash is harvested in Japan each fall and each pestle is made from a branch of the tree leaving the bark in tact. This simple wooden pestle can be used in any mortar where use of a wooden pestle is appropriate although it would typically be used with the Japanese suribachi. The surikogi is approxiamately 7" long (18cm). Hand carved, each piece is unique.
