How is GourmetSleuth.com any
different than any other search engine?
To answer this we'd like to explain a little
bit about how search engines work. There are two basic types of search engines. One
type is a "directory" such as Yahoo.com. Directories actually have a human
that looks at a site before it is entered into the search engines directory. The
other type of search engine is a "bot" that uses a program to search the web for
pages, using a very specific set of rules. Both types of search engines categorize the
sites using "keywords" (as well as other criteria). We are a "highly
focused directory".
Find Exactly What You
Are Looking For
GourmetSleuth is a highly specialized directory. We search the web using all the
major search engines to find gourmet food and cooking related sites. These sites are
reviewed, then entered into the proper food or cooking category before they are entered
into our database. The advantage to you is that we weed out sites that may use a
keyword in their title but in fact have nothing to do with what you are searching for.
For example. Go to Yahoo.com and search for "cheese" There
will be thousands of entries, and thousands of those entries will have nothing to do with
the "food" cheese. While it is possible for you to narrow your search
using the other search engines, GourmetSleuth simply does a lot of the work for you.
