Shallots

A variety of onion, Allium ascalonicum, native to Palestine. Each shallot is made up of a series of cloves somewhat like garlic. Typically shallots are sold dried all year round but can be fresh in spring. The flavor is strong so the shallot is normally used in small amounts.
