Sushi's main ingredient is vinegared rice.Sushi does not mean "fish" in spite of what American diners often think. The Japanese term for "fish" is sashimi. Sushi is simply rice wrapped elegantly around a myriad of centers. These centers are a variety of fish, seafood, vegetables and other exotic foods. In many cases (but not always) the rice is wrapped in a dryed seaweed making a very attractive cross sectioned food that is bite size and eaten either "in hand" or with chop sticks. It is customary to serve sushi artfully displayed with two side condiments: wasabi,a green putty-like horseradish and finely shaved pickled ginger root .
