Tomato Sauce


Tomato sauce is a product made by cooking fresh tomatoes down into a medium-thick sauce then straining out seeds and peels. The product is available natual or seasoned. Tomato sauce is used as a base or an addition to many sauces and soups. It is less concentrated than tomato paste and thinner than tomato puree.

Substitute for tomato sauce

For 1 cup sauce substitute 1/2 cup tomato paste mixed with 1/2 cup water or 1 cup tomato puree
OR use 1 cup tomato puree
OR 1 cup canned, stewed tomatoes blended to a smooth consistency.

Equivalents

8 oz. can   =   1 cup
