Pecans


A tree nut in the hickory family.  Pecans are large with reddish-brown shells and are excellent snacks as well as a popular ingredient in savory and sweet dishes.

Substitute for pecans

Hickory nuts OR walnuts. Hickory nuts are related to pecans.

Equivalents

1 pound shelled   =   4 cups or 2 1/4 cup nutmeats OR 1lb in shell = 2 1/2 cups shelled nuts, 1/2 lb. shelled nuts OR 2oz pecan pieces = 1/2 cup OR 6oz pieces = 1 1/2 cups
