Masago Arare

Other names: rice pearl

A Japanese product comprised of little pearls of crispy rice used as a coating for fried vegetables or sushi.    The word masago means tiny and the word arare means small rice cracker.  Don't confuse this masago with the fish roe of the same name.  Masago arare is pretty hard to find.  Look for it in traditional Japanese grocery stores.  We had difficulty finding it, even in a very large Japanese supermarket.
