Cloves, whole

A very aromatic spice, cloves are the unopened flower buds of the clove tree. Cloves are used in both savory and sweet dishes and maybe used whole or ground. Both versions are readily available in most grocery stores.

When making pumpkin pies you can substitute allspice for cloves.
