Chocolate pot

A vessel design specifically for serving a hot chocolate beverage. The example shown is a replica of a Louis XVIII chocolate pot, made in Limoges, France. Once the Spaniards took chocolate from Mexico back to the "Old World" it became so popular a special pot was designed to serve the special drink. The chocolate ingredients are placed in the pot. The "molinillo" is placed in the pot and then the cover is placed over the handle of the molinillo. With the cover in place, the user holds the molinillo between his two hands and with a rubbing motion froths the liquid. The pot is held from the top and side handle to pour the chocolate into cups.

The pot shown above was produced in the 1940's to 1950's. It is no longer made and not available for sale. Click the "buy link" to view a chocolate pot that is currently available for sale, made in France.

UCSF Researchers say products with added sugar should be controlled just like alcohol or tobacco. They are  advocating that the government take control of the situation because the citizens are unable to do so. The solutions they suggest include doubling the price of sodas via a sugar tax, put age restrictions on purchase of products containing added sugar and legislate which stores are allowed to sell products with added sugar.

Do you favor making sugar a government controlled substance like alcohol and tobacco?

Culinary Quote Of The Day

From James Beard...

The secret of good cooking is, first, having a love of it… If you’re
convinced that cooking is drudgery, you’re never going to be good
at it, and you might as well warm up something frozen.
